This course is designed for supervisors working in the marine related industry.

Entry Requirement

  • Successfully completed Marine Metal Scaffolding Course for Scaffolders. Proof of entry requirement includes the submission of Certificate of Successful Completion or WSQCertificate of Attainment(SOA).
  • Employability Skills (ES) Workplace Literacy level 4 and above.
  • Be able to manipulate numbers at a proficiency level equivalent to ES Workplace Numeracy level 4 and above.

Course Overview

To provide Marine Scaffold Supervisors with knowledge and skills to design and plan marine metal scaffolds work, supervise erection, alteration and dismantling of scaffolds as well as to carry out inspection and certification of marine metal scaffolds.

Course Content

  1. Introduction to Marine Metal Scaffolding.
  2. Roles and Responsibilities of a Marine Metal Supervisor.
  3. Composition of Scaffold.
  4. Scaffolding system; details, types and uses of scaffolds.
  5. Handling of scaffold materials..
  6. Ship structures – names and parts
  7. Legal requirements.
  8. Stability, centre of gravity and loading of scaffolds.
  9. Drawings/sketches of various types of scaffolds.
  10. Erecting hanging scaffolds – procedures, methods, anchoring points, safety precautions.
  11. General guidelines to alter, modify, add, inspect, assessment of scaffold.
  12. Developing scaffold checklist.
  13. Scaffolding safety.

Course Duration: 40 hours including 8 hours of assessment

 Medium of Instruction: English.

Teaching Methodology:

  • Face to Face class room teaching.
  • The following blended learning methods are applied to maximize the learning outcome:
    • Login to the Eversafe Academy e-learning platform and self-study from anyplace.
      • Presentation slides
      • Watch the video
      • Self-assessment
    • Project work on own workplace and submit project report (part of assessment)

Learning Environment:   Our ergonomically designed class rooms are fully air-conditioned, equipped with white boards; audio/video equipment’s and free wi-fi

Qualification or experience of facilitators:

A facilitator and assessor of this course will possess the following:

  1. Specialist Diploma in Workplace Safety and Health (Level C)
  2. t least 5 years of relevant industry experience as a supervisor/foreman/ safety personnel
  3. Advanced Certificate in Training and Assessment (ACTA) or Diploma in Adult Continuing Education (DACE)
  4. *Cat 1 Practical Training: Supervision of Metal Scaffold Erection Course OR Marine Metal Scaffolding Course for Supervisor Certificate with at least 3 years experience in scaffold supervision work
  5. **Cat 2 Theory Training: Registered WSHO or Engineering Diploma holders with at least 3 years in occupational safety and health and relevant experience in the topics being taught

NOTE:

*1 Only Category 1 approved facilitators are allowed to conduct training for scaffolding erecting skills and supervision and practical aspects of scaffold work

** 2 Category 2 approved facilitators may only conduct training for topics on the theoretical aspects and legislation concerning scaffolding work

  • Theory Lesson = 1:18 max
  • Practical lesson= 1: 9 max
  • Theory Assessment = 1:18 max
  • Practical Assessment = 1:9 max (if exceed 9 learners, Assessor: Learner ratio is 2: 18)

Course Attendance: 100% Attendance

Assessment Advice

1.5 hours of written test (WT) 6.5 hours of Practical Performance (PP). The passing mark for WT is 65% while for PP, learner will be assessed as Competent as C or Not yet Competent as NYC (100% to pass). The learner must pass BOTH parts of the Test in order to be issued with the certificate of successful completion and or safety pass/card. Failure to pass either of the tests shall render a “Fail” for WT and “Not Yet Competent” for PP outcome for the learner and he must then re-attempt the course and tests.

  • Based on the successful completion of the course and assessment, a Statement of Attainment (SOA) from the Skillsfuture Singapore (SSG) and a Safety Pass from Eversafe Academy Pte. Ltd. will be awarded to the trainee.
